Winter In The Village  Dansville_Chamber_Event_Logo_-_Winter_in_Village_1_Web.jpg

Dansville's Winter in the Village is a day long holiday festival in the heart of Dansville’s historic downtown district. The village comes alive with activities planned throughout the day and well into the evening. The annual Arts & Crafts Sale, Santa lighting the Christmas trees in Church Park as well as many local businesses, vendors, artisans and entertainers located throughout the downtown district are an annual delight to our many visitors. The tradition of the Wine Tasting Tour has become an annual highlight, featuring a multitude of New York wineries. Winter in the Village is a festival designed to begin the Christmas holiday with fun-filled memories with a local, hometown flair and sense of pride.

Many downtown businesses and restaurants offer a wide variety of sales, specials and entertainment for visitors. The festival is sponsored by the Dansville Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Dansville, who remind people to visit the entire business community and discover great bargains and dine in our fine restaurants. The 2013 Winter in Village - Saturday, December 7

The Winter in the Village day starts with Letters to Santa at the Dansville Post Office (8:30am to noon). A new event, Jingle Bells 5K Walk and Run, starts at 10am at Dansville Community Center, a joint effort with Once Again Nut Butter. Genesee Community College’s open house runs throughout the day and many special activities, including gift wrapping, will be available to families. At 10am, the Dansville Area Chamber’s Arts and Crafts Show and Sale opens at the Dansville Town Hall (runs until 7pm). More vendors will be at 161 and 167 Main Street later in the day.

For children especially, don’t miss visits with Santa at the Sugar Bowl from 1-4:30pm (sponsored by the Chamber). Stop in at the Genesee Valley Federal Credit Union between 3-4:30pm for short stories by a fairytale character; return to the Credit Union 5:15-8:30pm for music, performances and treats. Wander down to the Dansville Library children’s section between 5-8pm to enjoy crafts, cookies, hot chocolate and cider.

The Wine Walk launches at 4:45pm at the Dansville Chamber office where participants will be proofed, receive a wristband and the free 2013 commemorative glass for a $10 admission fee (cash only please). Eight tasting locations will feature New York State wineries from 5-8pm.

At 5pm, Santa helps light the trees in Church Park, a favorite event sponsored by the Lion’s. Then take your family on a horse-drawn wagon ride starting at the Star Theatre; donations are accepted and the Star, Genesee Valley Penny Saver and Rotary host this activity 5-8pm. Friends at Fusion Fitness sing carols at 5pm followed by a zumba demonstration at 5:30pm. The Clara Barton Chapter of the Red Cross will host its annual Open House and the Dansville Historical Society also presents a musical performance. Many merchants will offer specials for the day.

While you’re strolling, shopping and eating in Dansville, stop at the Dansville Chamber office (126 Main Street; open 11am-7:30pm) to vote in the People’s Choice Award for best decorated business. The 2013 theme is white lights and snowmen. Ballots will be available at the Chamber office and on the official event map, which will be inserted into the November 23 issue of the PenneSaver Plus and available on in November.

Ice sculptures will grace downtown Dansville, and when it gets chilly, head to ReMax Realty where outdoor heat lamps, coffee and hot chocolate will warm you up.

Promotion of this event is the Dansville Area Chamber’s holiday gift to the community. Follow updates and event additions on Facebook: Dansville’s Winter in the Village.
